High Throughput Computing
High throughput computing is a efficient and effective way to solve many research problems – by breaking data analysis up in to small parts and distributing work across a grid of many different computers. HTC is a complement to supercomputing and is particularly well suited to applications in which there is much data to be analyzed but little need for communication between the systems analyzing the data – such as analysis of data from the Large Hadron Collider. The mission of the High Throughput Computing group is to support use of High throughput computing by the IU and national research communities. HTC is primarily funded by the National Science Foundation, and current projects include:
- The Open Science Grid Operations Center (GOC). The Open Science Grid (OSG) is the largest HTC facility operating in the US. The IU OSG Grid Operations Center is responsible for 7 x 24 x 365 support of the OSG. A list of Operations Services is presented and/or linked off of MyOSG
- The Software Assurance Marketplace (SWAMP) is a state-of-the-art facility designed to advance our nation's cybersecurity by improving the security and reliability of open source software. HTC provides 7 x 24 x 365 operational monitoring and support for SWAMP, supporting open source software developers, software assurance tool developers and software security researchers, the marketplace offers no-cost access to a secure research facility with unparalleled analytical and reporting capabilities. This project is in collaboration with the Center for Applied Cybersecurity Research.
- The Computational Sciences at Indiana University (CSIU) Virtual Organization (VO) provides services to local researchers in utilizing local and national opportunistic computing cycles through HTC methods. Current IU Collaborators include the IU School of Medicine, the IU School of Informatics, and University Information and Technology Services.
