Scientific Applications and Performance Tuning

The mission of the Scientific Applications and Performance Tuning (SciAPT) group is to deliver and support software tools that promote effective and efficient use of IU’s advanced cyberinfrastructure – which, in turn, improves research and enables discoveries.

Services of the SciAPT team include:

Long-Term Consulting

  • Assist with development and parallelization of scientific applications
  • Facilitate efficient use of IU and national cyberinfrastructure, particularly XSEDE
  • Scale scientific workflows from desktops to High Performance Computing (HPC) systems
  • Contribute to grants and grant proposals

Performance Analysis and Tuning

  • Characterize and tune scientific applications and workflows
  • Develop benchmarks within the Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation (SPEC) High Performance Group
  • Benchmark and evaluate HPC systems

Short-Term Consulting

  • Deploy scientific software on IU’s HPC systems
  • Assist with problem determination and resolution

HPC Instruction, Publication, and Presentation

  • Conduct training to improve effective cyberinfrastructure usage
  • Publish articles in peer reviewed journals and present at conferences
  • Represent IU within HPC organizations

Software Licensing for HPC Systems

  • Provide central licensing for scientific applications and toolkits
