Scholarly Data Archive Access Methods: Hierarchical Storage Interface (HSI)

Important:

The Scholarly Data Archive (SDA) will undergo a software and hardware update on 2/28/16; see the ITNotices page entry <https://itnotices.iu.edu/notice.aspx?id=44805> for details.

This update requires the use of new HSI and HTAR clients, which can be downloaded below. Previous versions of HSI and HTAR no longer work with the upgraded SDA.

Overview

HSI (Hierarchical Storage Interface) is a Unix-style command line utility to access the IU Scholarly Data Archive system. To start using HSI, simply download and install a binary on your workstation. For Windows, HSI runs under Cygwin.

To learn more about HSI in general, check out the on-line documentation. To learn more about HSI at IU, check out the Knowledge Base.

HSI Client Changes

Select appropriate binaries from the table below; if the binaries for your OS/Architecture combination are not available please contact Research Storage. You can also install the HPSS.conf file (per developer's instructions, this file is not needed unless transfer rates are lower than expected).  The HPSS.conf file is available on this page, and, if installed, it should go in one of these directories: /var/hpss/etc, /usr/local/etc or /cygwin/usr/local/etc (for cygwin). Do not change the capitalization of the file name.
