Geographic Information Systems Services
The mission of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Support Staff is to provide stewardship for geospatial technology research, instruction and administration at Indiana University. This group provides access to GIS and remote sensing software, archives and provides access to Indiana's massively large geospatial datasets, documents archived data and software, and provides technical support to clients. In support of the IndianaMap Project, the GIS group maintains enterprise geodatabase and map publishing services for Indiana University and the general public. The staff serves as liaisons between the University and data partners to promote the needs of both Indiana University and the residents of Indiana.
The GIS Support staff provides management of advanced analytical tools such as ArcGIS Desktop and ERDAS IMAGINE for geospatial information discovery. These applications support analytical reasoning, visual representations and interaction techniques, data representations and transformations, and production and presentation of information. The Indiana University community uses these visual analytics software applications to identify spatial trends and patterns, explain the cause of these patterns, and share the workflows and analysis with others turning data into understanding.
